ACP has an ongoing commitment to support and improve the graduate medical education (GME) system. Published policy papers and ongoing advocacy address GME financing, redesigning residency training, addressing the resident physician shortage and other workforce needs, opposing immigration bans that impact medical education, personal and family leaves of absence for medical students, and more.

Designed to help programs meet the ACGME requirements to support resident well-being, ACP’s Resident Well-being Curriculum connects residents with evidence-based strategies to foster well-being and prevent burnout. Three online multimedia modules address the state of well-being and burnout in residency, offer individual and organizational strategies to battle resident burnout, and promote collaborative learning environments to improve well-being in residency. Assign the modules to your residents in advance of facilitated small-group discussions.

If 90% or more of a participating program’s categorical internal medicine or medicine–pediatrics residents are ACP Resident/Fellow Members in good standing when the recruitment period closes (December 31, annually), that residency program will achieve Rewards Status. Each resident in that program, regardless of their membership status, will receive a selection of additional free educational resources.

The IMIG Sponsorship Program* provides funding, resources, and learning opportunities to U.S. medical school groups to support their interest in internal medicine. Clubs complete an online application on an annual basis. This entitles them to $200 in initial funding at the beginning of the academic year and an opportunity to earn additional support based on their recruitment of ACP Medical Student Members.
