The term “health care provider” implies that health care can be conceptualized as just another commodity, when it is really about helping people who are suffering, managing complex problems, and counseling them how to live. We must retake control of what we do and how our identity is defined.

Dear Colleagues,
The past year has underscored the vital role of internal medicine physicians and our profession. We continue to lead through example and lead through change, providing a foundation of excellence for our patients and our healthcare system. We are critical thinkers who are compassionate, analytical, inquisitive, and adaptable. We thrive in complexity, and in a dynamic environment, and we provide structure and connection.
Despite the challenges brought on by an extended global health crisis, together we’ve accomplished much. I encourage you to read through this report for a summary of how ACP has worked for, and with, our internal medicine community over the past year. Our four strategic priorities provide a strong framework and help focus our efforts to support you and the future of our profession. The landscape continues to change, and we remain inspired by the possibilities and progress.
I welcome your feedback and thank you for everything you do for your patients and our profession.
I.M. Proud!
