Celebrating and Highlighting the Role and Value of Internal Medicine Physicians
ACP continues to showcase the leadership and impact of internal medicine physicians serving in many roles and settings. Advertising, videos and other content appearing on various social media platforms and in other media outlets help reinforce that internal medicine physicians are the cornerstone of comprehensive health care, with expertise that is vital to patients and other medical professionals.
We’re spotlighting internal medicine physician leadership and highlighting that internal medicine training instills a sense of leadership and collaboration at its core, which can be leveraged in any profession throughout one’s career.
Help us spread the word about internal medicine and celebrate our profession. Join the conversation and show your internal medicine pride on social media. Tag us using #IMProud or #IMPhysician to show your or your team’s impacts in action. Tell us why you love internal medicine.
Visit www.acponline.org/imphysician to stay up to date, connect on social media and engage in the conversation surrounding the internal medicine profession.
Supporting You Through Emotional Support and Well-being Initiatives
ACP’s I.M. Emotional Support Hub is a comprehensive collection of resources designed to help you nurture your emotional well-being. Resources include easily accessible peer support through the Physician Support Line and free, affordable and confidential counseling. Resources range from multimedia resources and CME Eligible Physician Well-being Activities to our I.M. Emotional Support Video Series.
This year, ACP was featured in an article for the Physicians Foundation's National Physician Suicide Awareness Day (NPSA Day) campaign as part of its “Success Stories” series, titled “Creating a Comprehensive Platform for Physician Emotional Support and Well-being Resources.”
ACP was also a founding member of the National Academy of Medicine Change Maker campaign, where ACP joined other health care organizations in a commitment to advocate for health care workers and promote systemic changes to improve clinician well-being.

Advancing Equity and Inclusion
Advancing health equity is an intentional commitment to compassion, inclusion, equity and justice as core values, consistently reflected in ACP’s organizational mission and goals. We welcome, consider and respect diverse perspectives throughout the College and the internal medicine profession.
As part of a focused review and alignment, ACP enhanced a wide range of initiatives with our staff, our member engagement activities and our governance to build on collaborations and partnerships to advance shared missions. ACP advocates through policy and practice to consistently advance equity throughout health care so everyone has a fair and just opportunity to attain their highest level of health.
Advancing health equity is not a single initiative, program or activity but instead an intentional forward-thinking philosophy to design solutions working toward better health care and well-being for all. Through policy, advocacy and action, we are working to eliminate disparities, discrimination, bias and inequities in health and health care.
We actively advocate on a wide range of issues; at its core, our advocacy is a commitment to advancing public policy for the improved health of patients, wellness of communities and strengthening of the profession, including all the diversity therein. Some recent examples include:
- Internal Medicine Physicians Strongly Oppose Efforts to Ban Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Programs in Medical Education
- ACP Recommends Ways to Better Meet the Health Care and Social Needs of Unhoused Populations
- Leading Health Organizations Commit Another $400,000 to Health Equity
- ACP Says Barriers to Participating in the Electoral Process Must be Removed
- ACP Provides Input to Address Disparities in Rural and Underserved Communities
- Medical Schools Receive Nearly Half a Million Dollars to Build Trust in Diverse Communities

Preventing Firearms-related Deaths and Injuries

Countering Medical Mis- and Disinformation and Promoting Reputable Content
ACP is committed to stopping and preventing the spread of medical mis- and disinformation and vigorously supports the use of science and scientific expertise based on the best available evidence. We work with a broad array of associations, boards and societies on several different initiatives to mitigate medical mis- and disinformation.
Most recently, ACP partnered with Public Good Projects to provide access to curated tools and resources specifically developed for physicians and health care professionals to help mitigate health care mis- and disinformation. Also included are weekly updates on health care mis- and disinformation trends across the country and state dashboards with real-time media data; reports providing trending health narratives and recommendations; and three training modules covering how to identify and respond to trending health narratives.
Visit www.acponline.org/misinformation for tools and resources to help fight medical mis- and disinformation. Resources include:
- Communicating accurate health information to your community
- Responding to trending health narratives
- Tackling misinformation
- Identifying credible sources of health information on social media
